Our family likes to take spontaneous trips. Sometimes we have been known to put out finger on a map and say “Let’s go there”. And then we decide if we are going to get there by car, train, bus, taxi, etc. The distance depends on our school & work schedules. During the last few weeks of summer before school started back up, we took many day trips.
One of these trips was to China Town. We’ve been there many times-but never by water taxi.
We drove downtown, and parked close to Union Station. The water taxi is just down the street from the train.
The view is amazing! The route is on the Chicago River, and well worth the $2 fare. It’s worth much more, but…sshhhhh…don’t tell anyone, they’ll raise the price.
The walk to the restaurants on the main strip in China Town is a bit of a hike, but we saw parts of China Town we had never seen. We took our time on our trek to our favorite restaurant, so we could take in all these new sights.
The ride heading back to Union Station was more dramatic due to the rain, and intense sky.
We weren’t ready to leave Chicago yet, so we took a trolley to Navy Pier, just in time for a gorgeous sunset.
I know we’ll be taking the water taxi trip again. maybe China Town, maybe a new location. or maybe both!
Looking forward to Spring when the Water Taxi’s are back in service!
